Urban Community and Environment
In Urban Community and Environment concentration, students study the urban setting from an interdisciplinary perspective that emphasizes the dynamic interplay between the arts, histories, systems, environment, and peoples of the city. The UCE concentration takes as its lens the unique dynamics of Los Angeles in order to understand a broad range of urban communities, past and present, from a global perspective. Through systematic engagement with community organizations doing work in urban arts and services, students develop theoretical and practical tools for contributing to the growth and improvement of urban culture, equity, and livelihood.
