While Southern California has a lot of options for teacher education
programs, I chose the Antioch University Los Angeles program because I was immediately drawn
to the MAE/TC's focus on social justice and ecological literacy. At
Antioch University we not only learn how to be engaging and reflective teachers,
but we also learn how to be agents of social change and how to
contribute to the greater common good by teaching our students to take
care of themselves and our Earth.
I also chose Antioch University because I wanted to make sure that I worked
closely with my colleagues, professors, and master teachers. I wanted
the teacher education program I chose to be personalized,
student-centered, and reflective. The Antioch University program is exactly that.
I feel that I have close relationships with my cohort members and I
love that our advisors and professors are readily accessible and always
willing to help us out. We all seem to feel comfortable discussing our
teaching experiences in our classes, both good and bad, and we work as
a team to come up with future strategies to refine our teaching.
Before I came to Antioch University, I never really formulated a true educational
philosophy. What I have learned in my classes at Antioch University has helped me
to clarify my ideas about education and as a result, my educational
philosophy has evolved from an amorphous set of ideas floating around
in my head to a clearer, more solidified expression of my educational
beliefs. I think I have learned more in one year at Antioch University than I did
during the nine years of teaching in private schools!

When I decided to pursue a career in education I searched for a program
that would challenge me to think critically about the process and
politics of teaching. Some of the other institutions I looked at seemed
to squeeze prospective teachers into a cookie-cutter mold. The
professors at Antioch University encouraged me to interact with the teacher
education process. The courses were individually tailored and tapped
into the collective experience of such a diverse group of soon-to-be
teachers. If you are looking for a program that will change the way you
see the world and transform you into someone capable of changing the
world, one student at a time, then look no further. Everything you need
is right here at Antioch University.

I have had the privilege of participating in
the MAE program for the last two years. During that time I found the
courses rigorous, challenging, and most importantly, a incredible
learning experience for me.
I have been an educator for 16
years and was looking for an education program where I could hone my
craft and develop myself as an educator that would truly be able teach
children effectively in the real world of teaching. I found that in the
Antioch university MAE program.
What has been the most
significant bonus for me has been the incredible support and honest
feedback I have received through this program. This is a faculty that
cares and responds to my needs. This is one of the few programs that
practices what they preach. It was the best decision I have ever made.
