What is the time-line for enrolling in an internship?

Students can enroll for an internship during weeks 9-11 before their intended internship quarter. We recommend students to begin preparing internship paperwork at least on week 7 before internship quarter.

How do I enroll to an internship?

Enrolling for an internship is similar to enrolling for a class. However, students must first get approval from the internship site where they want to work, and put together a proposal. Contact the Internship Program Coordinator for support.

What is the paperwork involved in registering for an internship?

Students must fill out an internship proposal and an intern profile form working closely with Internships Program Coordinator.

What is an internship proposal?

It is the official documentation AULA requires for internship enrollment. Students are expected to fill out this form, attach a proposal that includes a list of internship tasks and internship learning objectives, and gather the signatures of site supervisor, AULA academic advisor, internship evaluator and internship coordinator before submission to Registrar's office. The Internship Program Coordinator helps students work on their proposals between weeks 7-11 of the quarter before internship begins.

How can I demonstrate what I learned in my internship?

B.A. Program internships require self-reflective demonstration of learning via a weekly Internship Journal and a Student Learning Analysis. These must be submitted on week 10 of the internship quarter, no extensions. Guidelines and standards for Internship Journal and SLA can be found in the Internship Program Handbook.

Can my current job count as an internship?

If the mission of a student's workplace resonates with our B.A. learning objectives, it is possible that some of those job hours can qualify for internship credit. An internship proposal should carefully address these; ask Internship Coordinator about it. In any case, students must keep in mind that they would get; credit for their ability to demonstrate that they can reflect academically on their work experiences. In other words, internships credit "thinking" not "doings."

Who will be my internship evaluator?

We strongly recommend students to select an AULA Core or Adjunct Faculty member as their internship evaluator.

Where can I find a complete directory of internship opportunities?

Internship opportunities vary from one quarter to another. Opportunities are listed in the course schedules issued between weeks 6 and 7 of the quarter before internship quarter begins. The list of opportunities can also be requested to the internship office via email.

What is the internship work hours/credit ratio per quarter?

33 hours per quarter are equal to 1 unit. These 33 hours are counted as follows: 23 hours of work on internship tasks, plus 10 hours of self-reflective demonstration of learning (Journal and SLA).
