I have worked with many students who have had bad experiences with math and math teachers in the past. Through our sessions, my students discover ways to approach math that are empowering and even fun. I love seeing the look on a student’s face when they discover they actually enjoy working through their math exercises.
One reason for my interest in math is based on my passion for juggling. I have been juggling as a hobby since 1981 and the skill of juggling actual objects in space is very similar to juggling mathematical ideas.
I look forward to working with you as we discover the joy of math.

I went to Elementary school and College up north of Seattle. I went to High School and Library School in the Boston Metro area. I've spent my whole life in the counter culture and on the street.

I am a poet, an activist, and a vocalist/songwriter. I enjoy tutoring because I like to help people find their voice and effectively unfold it on the page.
As guest poet of the American Embassy, I have traveled to Kuwait, Russia, West Africa, Denmark, Turkey, Greece, Ireland, England, and Tunisia, performing and teaching writing workshops. I have a BA in English from Spelman College, and an MFA in Creative Writing from AULA. I was a writer-in-residence at Hedgebrook (super dope writing residency for women), and I am a volunteer creative writing teacher with InsideOut Writers, working with incarcerated teens. My work has been featured on two seasons of HBO's "Def Poetry," BET's "Lyric Cafe," and TVOne’s "Verses and Flow," as well as on De La Soul's album “Are You In?” and The Brand New Heavies album “We Won't Stop.”
I believe we are all writers because we all have something to say. My job is to help you empower yourself through writing – whether it’s an academic paper or a creative writing assignment. I hope to help smooth-out, clean-up, edit, dig, color, create, inspire, and have fun along the way. No worries. Let's just get it done. My goal as a writing tutor is to help you hone in on your own brilliance. Bam!
Megan McCord
I earned a BA in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Creative Writing and an MFA in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles. I write fiction, and am currently working on my first novel. My short fiction has appeared in Two Hawks Quarterly and Amazing Adventures Magazine.
I love tutoring in the Writing Center, helping writers discover their voices, from a paper’s initial planning stages, brainstorming and writing messy first drafts, through revisions, to its final draft. As a former student of both the BA and the MFA, I understand the demands of returning to school as an adult, and can help you develop strategies for time management and organization so you can complete all of your assignments on time.
I enjoy working with writers at all stages of their growth, from all of AULA’s programs, and strive to make writing fun and accessible.

I am poet, essayist, and translator from my native Polish. My book publications include four volumes of translations of Polish poetry, as well as individual poems, translations, essays, and reviews in The New Yorker, Times Literary Supplement, Los Angeles Review of Books, Threepenny Review, Salmagundi, Slate, Boston Review, Michigan Quarterly Review, and many other journals and magazines.
I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses in composition, poetry, literature, and translation here at Antioch University and at other colleges and universities. When I am not reading, writing, or teaching, you can find me swimming laps or surfing.
Robert Fox
I am Rob Fox. I write and I teach. My work has been published in the NY Times, LA Weekly and many literary journals across the country. I write creative nonfiction essays and memoir pieces, fiction and poetry. My passion is teaching incarcerated youth how to write creatively in jail.
As a tutor and instructor, I love to watch you grow as a student. I will help you gain confidence in your writing skills. Writing is personal, whether composing an academic paper or a poem. I enjoy bringing out the very best in our students. Those who work with me know my mantra, “You know more than you think you know.” In my sessions, the paper is a canvas for you to paint your ideas, add structure and polish to a blinding shine.
I like to brain storm ideas from the beginning, build structure from the first draft, or polish the paper with the accessories of language. Rather than focus on arcane and confusing grammar rules, I want you to listen to the rhythm of your sentences, find the ebb and flow of ideas, read where the strength and weakness exist.
Most of all, I want your voice present in the piece. You have worked hard putting your ideas on the page, so let’s make sure your voice is there too.

My personal coaching and teaching experience with writers goes back to the late eighties and nineties at Illinois State University and at SUNY Brockport, where I took a Masters in English, Writing concentration. Recently, I’ve graduated from the AULA MFA in Creative Writing Program. Along the way I’ve managed to publish a few things, but my greatest satisfaction comes from working with other writers — just like you. Whether your primary language has always been English, or was another language, my goal for you is to become excited about the page in front of you, not terrified. I want you to see your strengths and hear your voice grow stronger as you write.
Antioch is unique among colleges because of the high value we place on each student’s voice. I love being an emissary of that truth. Your classroom experience is where you begin, but when we write and think together, you get to have your say. You get to find out what truly matters to you and how you can actually make a difference in the world. That’s why I love this place. It begins with you.

Welcome students!I look forward to working with you.Here are a few things about me that might help you get to know me a bit better:
- My passion is writing. It's what gets me up in the morning. I've published fiction and nonfiction widely, I've been nominated for Best American Essays, Best Sex Writing, and twice for the Pushcart Prize, and I've edited the literary websites The Rumpus and The Splinter Generation. I also have an MFA in Creative Writing from AULA. My writing focuses on politics, LGBT issues, war and coming-of-age narratives.
- I have a social science background. I received an MA in Political Science from Syracuse, where my research focused on the intersection between war and civic engagement. I can help with questions about research design, quantitative and qualitative methods, statistics and math.
- I worked for a Congresswoman, for nonprofits, as a house painter and as a freelancer. In other words, I've worked quite a bit in "the real world," so I can also help with professional issues, like resume-building and job searching.
