Antioch University offers students at all campuses the option of working with peer tutors through the Virtual Writing Center (VWC). This Virtual Peer Tutoring enables you to receive written feedback on your work from an Antioch University peer tutor. The VWC also has faculty consultants who can provide guidance through online interactions.
Tutoring in Person and Tutoring Online: Your Options
Tutoring in Person
AULA offers over 70 hours each week of face-to-face tutoring with professionals on our campus. In the AULA Math & Writing Center, students meet with writing faculty to work on their writing skills, with a librarian to work on research skills, or with an experienced math professional to work on math skill development. You will bring everything you need to these sessions: notes, texts, drafts and syllabi. During this exchange, your tutor will help you address any concern you have about the information and assignments—from choosing your topic to understanding difficult texts to honing that final revision.
The tutoring you receive from an AULA tutor in person or by phone requires that you schedule an appointment. You can make an appointment by clicking here.
Virtual Peer Tutoring
AU offers students the important option of utilizing highly qualified peer tutors to provide feedback on writing assignments—up to two per week. You are invited to fill out a form in which you articulate your concerns about a particular written assignment and then upload your draft and submit it to the site. If your paper is 8 pages or fewer, the turnaround is 48 hours or less. Longer papers require more time. You may also resubmit a paper up to three more times as you revise. In addition, the new eChat feature creates a virtual classroom where you can share and discuss your work with an etutor live, in real time. You will need a computer camera for this option.
Follow these steps to submit your work to Virtual Peer Tutoring:
- On the top of any AULA web page, click on the “Quick Links” and choose “AULA Portal”. When the portal login appears, log in with your AUeID and password.
- In the rows of quick navigation buttons at the top left you will see the green “Virtual Writing Center” link, which will take you to that page. Alternatively, you can find the “Virtual Writing Center” option under the “Teaching & Learning Commons” menu.
- Clicking on the “e-tutoring” button at the top of the page will take you to the login and submission form.
Using Online Faculty Consultants
The VWC offers faculty consultations for students who need further support writing academic papers beyond the services offered through peer tutors. Consultations are by appointment only, and occur electronically by Adobe Connect virtual classroom or by telephone. Please note that this is not an editing service. Faculty support is meant to complement the feedback received from peer consultants in the VWC Online Writing Labs. Please contact Rosemarie DiMatteo (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Hidy Basta (email@example.com) to schedule a faculty consultation.
