My philosophy of teaching is based on my belief that learners come to the classroom with a wealth of knowledge, experience and perspectives. I seek to create a supportive environment for students to feel safe taking risks and testing new behaviors and approaches. I encourage students to bring their own stories, experiences and ideas into the classroom, providing an opportunity to work together, learn from one another and respect each others’ differences. I see my role as provider of content and facilitator of learning experiences that will foster critical thinking, problem solving and new understandings, with the goal of enhanced effectiveness, both personally and professionally. I accomplish this through lectures, discussions, readings, exercises, multi-media, action research and personal reflection papers. I am actively engaged in reciprocal learning and dialogue with students, helping them relate their learning and critical thinking to real situations outside of the classroom.
