Biography
Jim Krusoe(fiction) has published two books of stories, Blood LakeandAbductions. His first novel, Iceland, was published by Dalkey Archive Press, Since then he has had three novels published by Tin House Books: Girl Factory, Erased, and Toward You. His stories and poems have appeared in theAntioch Review, Bomb, theDenver Quarterly, theIowa Review, Field, the North American Review, theAmerican Poetry Review, the Chicago Review, and theSanta Monica Review, which he began in 1988. His essays and book reviews have appeared in theNew York Times Book Review, theLos Angeles Times Book Review, theWashington Post, Manoa, and in theTinHouse Writers’ Notebook. He is the recipient of a poetry fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and a reading fellowship from the Lila Wallace Reader’s Digest fund. He teaches at Santa Monica College as well as in Antioch's MFA in Creative Writing Program. He has also published five books of poems, and his newest novel, Parsifal, is due out in 2012 from Tin House Books.
Teaching Statement
I like to start which what I find strongest and build from there. Sometimes this means (in the case of a novel) starting over from the first chapter and doing a complete rewrite. I look hard to find a writer's individual voice and particular themes.
