Antioch University Los Angeles Welcomes Amy Smith as Vice President for Institutional Advancement

CULVER CITY, CA – September 30, 2011-- Antioch University Los Angeles is pleased to announce the appointment of Amy Smith as Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Smith brings nearly two decades of advancement and development experience to the position. In her new role she will work to advance AULA’s mission and goals by providing the vision, leadership and direction to all development and advancement activities. She assumed her duties on September 6, 2011.

Most recently, Smith served as Executive Director of UCLA Library Development at the University of California Los Angeles. She was responsible for development efforts in support of eight campus libraries and successfully increased the Library's annual average fund raising total by more than 50% and the number of donors by 113%.                

“As an Antiochian – I attended Antioch College – I am delighted to join the community at Antioch University Los Angeles and be realigned with the values of innovative and experiential education and commitment to social justice,” says Smith. “I look forward to working closely with President Boggs and others across campus – faculty, staff, and administrators – to build a culture of philanthropy that will lead to deeper engagement and support from our alumni and friends.”       

Prior to  her employment at UCLA, Smith served as the Assistant Dean for Development, College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at University of California, Riverside; Director of Development, Madden Library, California State University, Fresno. Smith has also held positions at Santa Monica College, the Los Angeles Times and Xerox Computer Services. 

She is the author of Legacies for Libraries: a practical guide to planned giving published by the American Library Association in 2000. Smith currently serves as Vice President of The Friends of the Westwood Public Library.

Smith holds a Master’s of Science degree in Library Service from Columbia University, a Bachelors of Art in Literature from Antioch College and has completed a certification program at the American Institute for Philanthropic Studies at CSU- Long Beach.  Smith lives in Los Angeles with her husband Dr. Robert Simon. They have five children.
