AULA Announces Opening of Emotion Pictures: Recent Work by Don Bachardy
New public show to be exhibited on campus from October 3 – November 1, 2007
CULVER CITY, CA – September 26, 2007– Antioch University Los Angeles today announced the opening reception for the new exhibit by famed portrait artist Don Bachardy on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 6pm. The new show, entitled “Emotion Pictures: Recent Work by Don Bachardy”, runs through November 1, 2007 at the Culver City campus.
Bachardy’s bold and striking portraits are always completed in a single, personal sitting as opposed to from photographs or other still images.
“All of my pictures of people are done from life, from a living sitter placed directly in front of me, and with no other presence to disturb us,” Bachardy states. “That procedure is the only way that I can connect with my sitter’s emotional make-up. Within every individual that is the source of all that is of major interest to me as an artist.”
With over forty pieces, the exhibit features Bachardy’s most recent work which was mostly completed within the last year. Notable pieces include two paintings of Dr. Terry Roberts, Antioch University Los Angeles faculty member and one of the Little Rock Nine – which recently celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the historic integration of Central High School in 1957.
The Emotion Pictures: Recent Work by Don Bachardy exhibit is part of a week-long celebration that cumulates with the inauguration of Antioch University Los Angeles’ new President, Dr. Neal King.
“We are profoundly honored by Don Bachardy’s friendship and the great gift of his new show as part of our 2007 inaugural festivities” adds Dr. King “Don Bachardy is living history, and is simply the greatest American portraitist alive today. His prodigious work continues to capture the complex personalities and moods of the times.”
The exhibit will open at 6pm on Wednesday, October 3rd with a special public artist’s reception. Don Bachardy will be on hand to walk visitors through the new show and will speak briefly about each work. Following the opening reception the exhibit will be open weekdays from 9am to 5pm through November 1, 2007.
Antioch University Los Angeles is located at 400 Corporate Pointe in Culver City, and the exhibit – located on the second floor - is free to the public. General parking is available in the structure adjacent to the University for a small fee, or street parking is available.
