Antioch University Los Angeles Announces Certificate in Publishing Arts Program
Diverse new program focuses on non-commercial literary projects

CULVER CITY, CA – January 17, 2008 – The MFA in Creative Writing program of Antioch University Los Angeles today announced the launch of their new low-residency Certificate in Publishing Arts Program scheduled for March, 2008.

A two-semester/three-residency program, the Certificate in Publishing Arts assists writers and literary entrepreneurs in the publication of books, magazines, and ezines devoted to literature as a fine art rather than as a strictly commercial enterprise. Unlike other publishing arts programs that focus primarily on connections with large commercial publishing houses, AULA’s Certificate in Publishing Arts will primarily serve persons of letters who are interested in non-commercial literary projects such as small presses, “little magazines,” ezines, and nonprofit literary organizations.

Similar to the MFA in Creative Writing Program, the Certificate in Publishing Arts Program’s faculty, curriculum, and student body will reflect the diversity of the nation’s literary artists and audience. Internship possibilities have been established at literary presses, magazines, agencies, and arts organizations in the Midwest, the East and West Coasts, and Hawaii. Antioch seeks to educate a wide range of dedicated students who will develop publishing arts and promote literature in their local communities across the USA.

Publishing Arts Associate and Guest Faculty participating the March Residency will include Kate Gale, Editor of Red Hen Press; poet and editor Marilyn Hacker; literary agents Sandra Dijkstra and Jenonye Adams, literary anthologist David Starkey, and business specialist Mark Lieberman.

The Certificate Program will begin with a special three-day Publishing Arts Residency on the weekend of March 7-9, 2008. The application deadline is February 7th and financial aid is available for those who qualify. Interested students can contact the Office of Admissions at (310) 578-1080 x411.
