Antioch University Los Angeles welcomes award-winning poet and author Honor Moore
Free public reading and booking signing from her new book, The Bishop's Daughter

CULVER CITY, CA – May 7, 2008 – The BA Program at Antioch University Los Angeles, in conjunction with the MFA Program in Creative Writing and PEN Center USA, proudly welcomes esteemed poet and author Honor Moore to the AULA campus on Wednesday, May 28th for a free public reading and book signing. Ms. Moore will read from her newest book, The Bishop's Daughter, which hit newsstands this month.

The Bishop’s Daughter is a powerful new memoir that chronicles Ms. Moore’s turbulent relationship with her father, an Episcopal priest, who struggled privately with his sexuality while she openly explored hers. A father of nine children, Paul Moore Jr. felt a sexual attraction to both men and women throughout his life. This secret would challenge his faith and have a devastating effect on his family, in particular his relationship with Honor, his eldest daughter, who herself explored relationships with both men and women in the liberating atmospheres of New York City in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Honor Moore’s book is a searching account of the consequences of sexual secrets on a family’s bond.

“Antioch University Los Angeles is delighted to host distinguished poet and nonfiction writer Honor Moore” said Dr. Steve Heller, Chair of the MFA in Creative Writing program. “Although Ms. Moore initially made her reputation as a poet, her memoir The Bishop's Daughter about her father, Bishop Paul Moore, has gained outstanding notices, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our campus.”

Ms. Moore is currently on tour throughout the United States, promoting The Bishop’s Daughter. She is the author of three collections of poetry, including Red Shoes. Her biography of her grandmother, painter Margarett Sargent, titled The White Blackbird was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. Her writing as appeared in such publications as The New York Times, The American Scholar, and The New Yorker. A recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, Moore lives in New York City and teaches at The New School and Columbia University.

Ms. Moore will be giving a free public reading from The Bishop’s Daughter on Wednesday, May 28th beginning at 7:30 P.M, followed by a Q&A and book signing. The public is also invited to a special author’s reception preceding the reading, set to begin at 6:30 P.M.

The event will be held on the Antioch University Los Angeles campus, located at 400 Corporate Pointe in Culver City. General parking is available in the structure adjacent to the University for a small fee, or free evening street parking is available.

This event is sponsored by the BA in Liberal Studies program, in conjunction with the MFA in Creative Writing program and PEN Center USA, and is supported by Poets & Writers, Inc through a grant it has received from the James Irvine Foundation.
