CULVER CITY, CA – April 7, 2008 – Antioch University Los Angeles is proud to welcome Sylvia Rodriguez Andrew, Ph.D., J.D. as the University’s new Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Rodriguez Andrew will become the first Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Antioch University Los Angeles, as the University continues to grow and enters its thirty-sixth year providing innovative education to the greater Los Angeles community.
Dr. Rodriguez Andrew has served previously as acting President of Evergreen Community College and Interim Chancellor of the San Jose/Evergreen Community College district. "I'm delighted that Dr. Rodriguez Andrew will be joining the AULA community this summer. She is a scholar, educator and activist of the first order” said Dr. Neal King, President of Antioch University Los Angeles. “As a seasoned academic leader, faculty advocate, and administrator, she brings an energetic dedication to the mission of Antioch University Los Angeles.”

The nationwide search was chaired by distinguished professor Dr. Dale Johnston. “I am very pleased with the outcome of our search,” stated Dr. Johnston. “Dr. Rodriguez Andrew is an accomplished advocate for both faculty and curricular issues. Additionally, her background in social work will help AULA strengthen our ties with the greater community and allow us to build new curriculum that responds to current societal needs.”
Regarding her appointment, Dr. Rodriguez Andrew said “Antioch's legacy of innovation, commitment to students, and their ambitious and exciting agenda for the next few years attracted me to joining the exceptional faculty and staff at the Los Angeles campus. The energy and enthusiasm of the campus community when they speak about creating new opportunities for adult learners is contagious and I look forward to joining the charge.”
Dr. Rodriguez Andrew received her BA from St. Edwards University and her MSW from Our Lady of the Lake University, both in Texas. She was awarded her PhD from the School of Social Work at the University of Texas, Austin, and her JD from Lincoln Law School in San Jose, California.
