Antioch University Los Angeles Professor Terrance Roberts, Ph.D. Announces Retirement

CULVER CITY, CA – April 29, 2008 – Dr. Terrance Roberts, core faculty and former co-chair of the Master of Arts in Psychology program at Antioch University Los Angeles, will retire in June at the end of the 2008 academic year.  Dr. Roberts joined Antioch University Los Angeles in 1993, and served as faculty in both the Master of Arts in Psychology and Master of Arts in Organizational Management programs.

“We have been deeply honored to know Dr. Roberts as a member of our community over the last several years” stated Dr. Neal King, President of Antioch University Los Angeles.  “Dr. Roberts is a powerfully inspirational man, well beyond his iconic role in American history, and we will miss his gentle wit and warm wisdom. The entire Antioch community joins me in wishing Dr. Roberts the very best in his retirement.”

As a youth, Roberts was one of the "Little Rock Nine," the first African-American students to integrate Little Rock, Arkansas' Central High School in 1957. In 1999, Dr. Roberts was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal for his involvement at Little Rock. His participation in this significant turning point in history contributed to his ongoing passion about issues of diversity within the field of psychology.

Roberts earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University in Los Angeles, a master’s degree in social work from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and a doctorate in psychology from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill. Prior to Antioch, Dr. Roberts was the former Assistant Dean, School of Social Welfare, at UCLA.  Dr. Roberts also heads a management consultant group dedicated to improving human relations in the workplace.

A popular public speaker, Dr. Roberts will continue to consult and lecture throughout the US following his retirement from Antioch University Los Angeles.
