Study Peru’s Potential for a Sustainable Economy Next Summer

Join students from other Antioch University campuses for a study abroad trip to Peru to learn about corporate social responsibility and sustainable development. Antioch University New England’s (AUNE) MBA in Sustainability is offering the interdisciplinary course to all Antioch University students and alumni. The course is being offered June 23 through July 1, 2012.

“Peru's connections to the past overshadow the significant interest generated by the country's recent economic progress,” says Polly Chandler, chair of AUNE’s MBA in Sustainability program. “Students will develop a deeper understanding of how social responsibility and sustainability can be powerful levers in emerging economies.”

Students will visit several places in Peru’s capital, Lima, to study small businesses, multinational companies and the partnership between businesses, NGOs and community-based public/private enterprises. Then they will travel to the Amazon rainforest to look at new models for sustainable economies, including the timber, Brazil nut and ecotourism industries. They will analyze the effect of economic growth on the fragile rainforest and its people.

The cost of the study abroad trip is $2,420, excluding airfare and registration and tuition fees. The course is worth three credits; it may also be audited or taken as a continuing education course. On-line course work is required during the spring semester before the trip, and July 2 through July 30 after the trip to share information.
